Elite8-point trend filter — price, MAs & relative strength

Mark Minervini's Trend Template (Trade Like a Stock Market Wizard): eight chart criteria for a Stage-2 uptrend, counted 0 to 8. Criterion 8 substitutes a public test (trailing-12-month return beating the S&P 500) for IBD's proprietary RS rating. A * marks rows missing an input. Not investment advice.

How it works

Mark Minervini's filter from Trade Like a Stock Market Wizard. Eight conditions that together describe a stock already in a confirmed uptrend, rather than one you are hoping will start one.

Price above both the 150- and 200-day moving averages. The 150-day above the 200-day. The 200-day itself rising. The 50-day above both. Price above the 50-day, well clear of its 52-week low and close to its 52-week high, with relative strength ahead of the market. The score is how many of those it passes.

When it misleads

This is a filter, not a signal. It tells you a stock is in an uptrend. It says nothing about how much of that uptrend is left, and by construction it finds you names that have already run.

The score is a small integer, so hundreds of names tie on it. Two companies both scoring 7 can be in very different places.
